n this workshop we will explore different ways of playing that makes you and only you uniquely magnetic to an audience through a variety of fun and ridiculous clown, character and Bouffon games and exercises.
In clown we discover our innocence and naivety. š¤”
In Bouffon we discover the pleasure to mock. š
And In characters we find pleasure in disappearing. š»
You will learn that all these performance genres are fantastically interconnected and interchangeable! š
We will work on key performance fundamentals in a super intense way and Ed will give each individual endless amounts of time to FAIL! To flop! Flop hard! Swim in the shit and find your way out of it!
We will work on our FIXED POINTS which will make us all so much more beautiful and on CHECKING IN with the audience to see if they are bored or intrigued by what we are doing.
We will also explore building COMPLICITE with your partner and the audience through a series of insane exercises from Ed Malone's repertoire.
***There is a 48 hour cancellation policy.
ABOUT ED:
Originally from Ireland, Ed is a graduate of Ecole Philippe Gaulier where he trained with master clown himself. He also trained at Ecole Jacques Lecoq and heās now been teaching clown in NYC for over 10 years. The New York Times described Ed as a ādeft physical comedianā, and Time Out New York said of Edās follow up solo show that - āit blows the walls of the theater!ā Ed can also be seen in the upcoming Josh Safdie film āMarty Supremeā starring TimothĆØe Chalamet.
Ed loves helping his clown students discover things about themselves and their art that they couldnāt even dream of.
Former students include Chloe Fineman of Saturday Night Live, Matt Higgins of Comedy Central, as well as Felipe Di Poi Tamargo of Adult Swim, amongst others.
Hereās what they had to say about Ed and his class:
''I thought I was going on a date but instead wound up in Ed's clown class haha. Ed's class was full of laughter and not traumatic like those other French clown schools. Which I really appreciated! Ed is a wonderful teacher. Highly recommend his class!"
- Chloe Fineman, Saturday Night Live
"What a gift to take class with Ed! He has infused my acting with a fantastic new energy and point of view. Lately on stage and in conversation, I feel a stillness and heightened sense of focus that I've not felt before. Ed's a master."ā
- Matt Higgins, Comedy Central
"Taking a class with Ed is like taking the red pill of comedy. After his class, I can no longer watch stand up comedy. I don't want too many comedians taking it because then everyone would get too good. Ed's class is the best show I've been to in the city."
- Felipe Di Poi Tamargo, Adult Swim
